DATE: Victorian, c.1900

A gorgeous antique diamond-set horseshoe brooch dating from the Victorian period, circa 1900. It's crafted in 18 karat gold, and set with six transitional cut diamond "nails", 2 carats total. Horseshoes have long been associated with good luck, and has become popular symbol to provide protection. There are many superstitions on which way you should hang a horseshoe, however many believe that to hang a horseshoe with the ends pointing upward, acts as a storage container for any good luck that happens to be floating by, whereas to hang it with the ends pointing down is bad luck because all the good luck will fall out.
